Privacy Policy
What we collect when you use Algemify, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and how to exercise your rights over it.
IN EFFECT SINCE OCTOBER 18, 2026
1. Who is responsible for your data
Algemify ("Algemify", "we", "us") is operated by Alex Ricardo Castañeda Rodríguez, an individual domiciled in the Republic of Guatemala, who decides why and how your personal data is processed and is responsible for it. For any matter related to this policy, write to castaneda.systems@gmail.com.
This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Algemify website and its services (the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have over it. It forms part of the Terms of Use. Words such as "including" are examples, not limits.
2. The data we collect
We collect only what the Service needs to work, to stay fair and to stay secure.
Account
Email address, the name you choose, and your password, which our authentication provider stores only as a one-way hash that nobody, including us, can read back. You give it when you sign up.
Sign-in with Google or GitHub
Name, email address, profile picture address and the account identifier that provider gives us. We never receive your Google or GitHub password. The provider gives it, with your permission.
Verification
One-time codes and password reset links. We generate them when you ask for them.
Profile
Handle, birth year, country (optional), time zone detected from your device, experience, goals and interests, and anything else you add to your profile. You give it during onboarding and in your profile.
Activity
The code and queries you submit, their verdicts and times, lessons and checks completed, hints opened, XP, streaks, ratings, matches, rooms and places. It comes from your use of the Service.
Technical
A session cookie; the IP address and browser identifier recorded with each session; and server records of requests and errors. It comes from your device and our servers.
We do not collect payment information, precise location, contacts, photos or biometric data, and we do not use advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
3. Why we use it
- To provide the Service: create and secure your account, judge your submissions, keep your progress, run matches and rankings, and send the emails the Service needs, such as verification codes and password resets. This is necessary to perform the Terms of Use you accept.
- To keep it fair and secure: detect cheating, multiple accounts and abuse, protect our systems and investigate incidents. This is our legitimate interest, and yours as a player, in a fair competition and a safe service.
- To protect minors: your birth year lets us apply the age rules in section 9.
- To improve the Service: understand, in aggregate, which problems and lessons are used and where people get stuck.
- To comply with the law: answer valid requests from competent authorities and keep the records the law requires.
- With your consent: optional profile details. You can remove them at any time.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not make decisions about you that produce legal effects solely by automated means. Ratings and verdicts are computed automatically by design and can be reviewed on request.
4. What other players can see
Your handle, level, ratings, tier, results, place on leaderboards and participation in matches and rooms are visible to other signed-in players. Your country is shown on regional rankings if you choose to give it. Your email address, birth year and password are never shown to other players.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use only one cookie that is strictly necessary: a first-party, signed session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is not used to track you across other websites. There are no third-party, advertising or analytics cookies. Because the cookie is essential for signing in, it cannot be turned off while you use your account; you can delete it by signing out or through your browser.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal data only with the service providers that run the Service on our behalf, under obligations of confidentiality and security, and only to the extent each one needs:
- Neon: database hosting, authentication and the delivery of verification and password emails.
- Google and GitHub: only if you choose to sign in with them. Their own privacy policies govern what they do with your data.
- Cloud hosting providers that run our web servers and our live match service.
We may also disclose personal data when required by law or by a valid order of a competent authority of the Republic of Guatemala, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or of Algemify. If Algemify is ever transferred to another person, your data would pass to them under the same protections, and we would tell you beforehand.
7. International transfers
Our providers store and process data in the United States of America and possibly in other countries. By using the Service you understand that your data is transferred outside the Republic of Guatemala. We choose providers that apply recognised security standards and contractual protections for personal data.
8. How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | While your account exists. When you delete it, the profile is anonymised at once and your sign-in is removed within 30 days. |
| Code submitted in practice | 7 days, except your latest attempt and your latest accepted solution on each problem. |
| Code submitted in matches | 1 year, to resolve disputes and check for copying. |
| Record of each submission (problem, verdict, times) | While your account exists, to keep rankings accurate. |
| Verification codes and reset links | 15 minutes. |
| Encrypted backups | 90 days, then destroyed. |
| Server records | Only as long as needed for security and to fix errors. |
When data is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it so that it can no longer be linked to you. We may keep data longer only when the law requires it or while a dispute or investigation is open.
9. Children and teenagers
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and they must not create an account. Users from 13 to 17 years old may use the Service only with the consent of their parent or legal guardian, who accepts these documents on their behalf. If we learn that we hold data from a child under 13, or from a minor without that consent, we will delete it. A parent or guardian can write to castaneda.systems@gmail.com to review or delete their child's data.
10. Security
We protect your data with reasonable technical and organisational measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS and TLS), hashed passwords, signed session cookies, short-lived access tokens, sandboxed execution of submitted code, encrypted backups and access limited to what each part of the Service needs. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security incident affects your personal data, we will notify you without undue delay and tell you what happened and what we are doing about it.
11. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Delete your account and personal data. You can do it yourself at any time from your profile page.
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, a use of your data.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Withdraw consent you gave for optional data, at any time and without affecting what was done before.
These rights reflect the protection of privacy and of informational self-determination recognised in the Republic of Guatemala, and, where they apply to you, the data protection laws of the country where you live. To exercise them, write to castaneda.systems@gmail.com from the email address of your account. We will answer within 30 days, free of charge. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting, to protect your account.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the Service or the law changes. If a change is material, we will notify you on the Service or by email at least 15 days before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect.
13. Contact
