Terms of Use
The agreement between you and Algemify: who can use it, how to play fair, what happens to your code and the law that applies.
IN EFFECT SINCE OCTOBER 18, 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Alex Ricardo Castañeda Rodríguez, an individual domiciled in the Republic of Guatemala, who operates Algemify ("Algemify", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the Algemify website and its services: practice problems, lessons, the arena, rankings, missions and everything related (the "Service").
By creating an account, including with Google or GitHub, or by using the Service, you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy, which forms part of them. Your electronic acceptance has the same validity as a handwritten signature under the Law for the Recognition of Electronic Communications and Signatures (Decree 47-2008 of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who may use the Service
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If you are between 13 and 17, you may use the Service only with the consent of your parent or legal guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service.
- You must not use the Service if we have previously closed your account for breaking these Terms, unless we allow you to.
3. The Service
Algemify is a platform to learn and practise algorithms, SQL and Git, and to compete with other people. The Service is currently free and in beta: features may change, be added or be removed, and the Service may be interrupted for maintenance, updates or causes beyond our control. We will try to give notice of important changes, but we do not guarantee that the Service, or any feature of it, will always be available.
If we ever offer paid features, they will be announced in advance, governed by separate conditions that you must accept expressly, and nothing will ever be charged to you without your prior consent.
4. Your account
- Give true and current information, and keep it up to date.
- One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be shared, sold or transferred.
- Keep your password and your access to your email secure. You are responsible for what happens in your account unless it was caused by our fault.
- Tell us at once at
castaneda.systems@gmail.comif you think someone else is using your account. - Your handle must not impersonate another person, mislead others or be offensive, discriminatory or obscene. We may ask you to change a handle that breaks this rule, or change it ourselves.
5. Fair play
Rankings only mean something if everyone competes honestly. In matches, ranked play, the daily challenge and anything else that is ranked, you must not:
- receive help from another person, or use a tool or artificial intelligence assistant that writes the solution for you;
- share solutions with players in a match while it is being played;
- use more than one account, or play against yourself or arrange results with others to change ratings;
- automate play with bots or scripts;
- try to obtain the hidden tests or the reference solutions.
Practice and lessons are for learning, and there you may use the resources you like, unless a lesson's check says otherwise.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- attempt to break out of the environment that runs submitted code, or to access systems, accounts or data you are not authorised to access;
- attack, overload or disrupt the Service, including through denial-of-service attacks, mass requests or malicious code;
- copy, extract or collect content or data from the Service by automated means, or reverse engineer it, except as the law expressly allows;
- harass, threaten or discriminate against other people, or publish illegal, violent, sexual or hateful content;
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of the rights of others.
Some of these acts may also be offences under the Criminal Code of Guatemala, including the computer crimes in articles 274 "A" to 274 "G", and we may report them to the competent authorities.
7. Your code and content
The code, queries and other content you submit are yours. To provide the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, run, judge and display that content to you and to the people the Service shows it to, such as the players in your match when it ends; to review it in disputes and checks for copying; and to use it in aggregate, anonymised statistics. The licence lasts while we keep the content under the Privacy Policy and ends when it is deleted.
You declare that you have the right to submit your content and that it does not infringe the rights of anyone. Do not submit secrets, passwords, personal data of others or code you are not allowed to share.
8. Our content
The problems, tests, lessons, explanations, software, design, name and logo of Algemify are protected by the Law on Copyright and Related Rights (Decree 33-98 of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala) and by international treaties, and belong to us or to their licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use them within the Service for your own learning. You may not copy, publish, sell or redistribute them, in particular the problem bank, the hidden tests and the lessons, without our written permission.
9. Breaches and their consequences
If you break these Terms, we may, depending on how serious it is: warn you; cancel results, XP or rewards; reset or adjust your ratings; temporarily suspend your account; or close it permanently. When reasonable, we will tell you the reason. If you believe we made a mistake, write to castaneda.systems@gmail.com within 30 days and we will review the decision.
10. Ending your use
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from your profile page, or ask us to do it by writing to castaneda.systems@gmail.com from its email address. We may stop offering the Service, in whole or in part, with reasonable notice when possible. Sections 7, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 15 survive the end of these Terms.
11. No warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by the law of the Republic of Guatemala, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose. Algemify is an educational tool: its verdicts, ratings, tiers and lessons are not professional certifications and do not guarantee any academic or professional result.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, loss of profits, loss of data or loss of opportunities arising from the use of, or the inability to use, the Service. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim related to it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which is currently zero. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of the Republic of Guatemala, including liability for wilful misconduct (dolo) or gross negligence, nor any right you have as a user that the law makes irrenounceable, including under the Law for the Protection of Consumers and Users (Decree 006-2003) where it applies.
13. Your responsibility
You are responsible for the damages that you cause to us or to third parties by breaking these Terms or the law, and you agree to compensate them in accordance with the law of the Republic of Guatemala.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms when the Service or the law changes. If a change is material, we will notify you on the Service or by email at least 15 days before it takes effect. If you continue to use the Service after that date, you accept the new Terms; if you do not agree, you may stop using it and ask us to delete your account. The date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect.
15. Applicable law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Guatemala. Before starting any legal action, we both agree to try to resolve the matter amicably for 30 days, starting when one of us writes to the other explaining it. If it is not resolved, the competent courts of the department of Guatemala will hear the dispute, without prejudice to any irrenounceable right you may have to go to the courts of your domicile or to the consumer protection authority.
16. General
- If any part of these Terms is found invalid, the rest remains in force, and the invalid part is replaced by a valid one as close as possible to its purpose.
- If we do not enforce a right at a given moment, we do not waive it.
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
- You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer them, together with the Service, with notice to you.
- These Terms are written in English. If a Spanish version is published, the Spanish version prevails in the Republic of Guatemala.
